An employee at The Chipper Truck Café in New York received a breakfast order via the Grubhub application earlier in June.
The order consisted of an Irish breakfast sandwich, a cheeseburger and an important message:
“Call the police, he’s going to call me when you deliver. Please do not make it obvious. “
The message made the café employee act quickly and the police were contacted immediately, writes News 12 Westchester and several American media.
The police called
The food order turned out to be a cry for help from a 24-year-old woman who was nearby.
According to News 12 Westchester, the woman was raped, threatened with a knife and held captive in an apartment against her will on Pratt Avenue in the Bronx.
When the food was to be delivered, it was not anyone from the food delivery service Grubhub who showed up, but the police who called with the food.
Police have now arrested a 32-year-old man after the incident, and he is charged with, among other things, rape, strangulation, assault and criminal use of weapons.
The café, The Chipper Truck Café, has also written about the incident on its Facebook profile.
“This morning around five o’clock a girl was rescued from a five-hour hostage situation.”
This is how the café starts its post, and further in the post they brag about their employees who reacted quickly and called the police.

The staff are happy that they were able to help the woman who needed help:
“I have often heard that this has happened, but never thought it would happen to us. Fortunately, we were open and able to help her. “
Get praise on the Internet
Now the café has received good news that they will be rewarded with 5000 dollars from the food delivery service Grubhub for fast and correct action.
This corresponds to almost 50,000 Norwegian kroner.
– They thanked us for what we did and for being aware of the message. To show gratitude, they wanted to give us a reward, says restaurant owner Alice Bermejo to ABC 7 New York.
Bermejo did not expect them to receive any reward for what they did, but says that the money will still come in handy after the pandemic.
Still, it is not the money that is in focus for the owner, she thinks more about the woman who experienced it all:
– It is shocking for us, and we are so grateful that he was taken and that the woman is well, she says.
On Facebook, several praise the employees’ good deed:
‘Wow, I did not think that actually happened! So glad you read the message and helped! ” writes one in the comments field.
Another also writes:
“Thank you for taking it seriously and helping her!”
